So Long… Farewell

Departing Sister Missionaries' Last Training Meeting

Traditionally, when sisters are completing their mission service, the last weekly training meeting they attend affords them each the opportunity to bear their testimonies to their fellow sisters and then to bid their colleagues adieu with some kind of silly, creative song or skit.
Here's this week's performance by departing Sisters Rowley, Fifita, Griffiths, Busath, Holland, Chapman and Lewis, and senior missionaries Elder and Sister Crandall.

JUST RELEASED:  THE LATEST EPISODE OF "DISTRICT 3"

Our mission has a long-standing tradition of creating training videos for our zone conferences that we call "District 3" as a spin-off of the MTC's "The Districts 1 & 2" teaching films.  We use them to address, in a light-hearted way, some aspect of missionary work that could use improvement.  This recent installment of "District 3" focuses on both the opportunity and the challenge our missionaries face in effectively using the newest proselyting tool - iPads!

Night of Music and Inspiration happens every month in the Washington, D.C. North Mission.

One of our Visitors' Center sisters is asked to organize the event and all missionaries are

asked to bring as many people as possible. Thanks to Sister Mendenhall we

were able to enjoy one of the best Visitors' Center events yet!

Arlington - The Semi-Annual Pilgrimmage

With the east coast autumn feuillage in all its splendor, 

we carried on a tradition of this mission... 

… to take those missionaries who will be leaving the mission

 within the coming six months 

for a special visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

At the Visitors' Center entry point, the President shared some personal insights into the significance of this sacred site.

And our reverent trek began…

 At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,

we were inspired by the dignity and discipline of the "Old Guard."

Elder Schoemig penned this verse in his planner as he watched the changing of the Guard:

"This hallowed ground of Tomb Unknown is guarded by the world unshown

and one brave soldier takes his place amongst God's noblest, holy ranks."

Then we were favored to an insight into the Old Guard's quarters with an explanation of the demands of that duty.

We made our way next to the Arlington House.

Reverence began to relax a bit...

 

We made our way soberly to the Kennedy Memorial, 
almost exactly fifty years after his death.

This was the favorite spot of Arlington chosen by our three "Eastern Block" missionaries,
Elder Szabo, Sister Lavrentyeva, and Elder Synelnikov

We ended our tour of Arlington at the 
"Women in Military Service in America" Memorial
